Discussion:
[scribus] Edit links to images

I started working on a Scribus document on a Windows Vista machine and
then changed the operating system to Ubuntu. I suddenly found that all
of the links to the images frames had a red x in them. I'm guessing
the scribus file is still looking for the images in c:/users/my
documents etc Is there anyway to modify the image reference? I don't
mind modifying code if that's what it takes. I just don't want to have
to add and resize 50 images again.

Thanks,

Ant

you have to file > collect for output your document before moving it to the other system!

I wonder what happens if you make a directory "c:/users/my Documents.."

Don't know about Ubuntu, but in Windows, the important thing is to leave the
images and the documents where you started with them. Scribus doesn't embed
the images, but calls them from the program when needed. Saves space, but
it makes for real problems if you happen to move either your image directory
or your Scribus documents directory (both of which I did, once--I always
have to learn the hard way).Steve B.

Yes - as side effects go, becoming unable to organise your photograph
collection is a pretty big one !!

I don't really understand why Scribus doesn't let you identify pictures
by relative or absolute path.

I still like the idea of being able to embed the images in the .SLA
file. I understand the problems this gives rise to, but I als know I
have far less grief reusing my old .p65 files than my old InDesign 1.5
work which stored images externally.

Yes, I realise that now, but what can I do in this situation?
if you can go back to the vista version, collect from there for output.

if you can't, well, i hope that you still have the original images!

in 1.3.5svn there is a Extras > Manage images where you can modify the paths. i hope that there is something similar in 1.3.3.x, too, if you're using that version!

last chance, is to open the .sla file with a text editor and manually modify the paths!

good luck

Thanks for your advice everyone. I have all of the original images but
I unfortunately can't go back to the vista version of it, so I guess
I'll have open the sla in gedit and hope for the best.

Keep a backup, but it should be fine.

I opened it in gedit and discovered that file paths are relative to
the location of the file. So, I just moved the .sla up a few
directories and the images appeared! I'll be sure to do "collect for
output" from now on.

Thanks again

AFAIK, all you needed to do was to right click and insert image in
those image frames with a red X

That would have rewritten the sla for you
