Great program. It's wonderful that there's an alternative to Adobe. Well
done! Keep it up.

One colour library that used in Germany a lot is the HKS library - in
the wiki it states that:

"*UPDATE*: As of version 1.4.0, HKS K is being shipped with Scribus as a
subset of the "J&S K" palette."

but it seems that the "J&K" palette is not there. I can't find any other
info on this topic - was this palette dropped? Can it be put back in?

Thanks,

mike

Hi Mike,

There is a "Bundesregierung HKS" in 1.5.5svn -- a somewhat limited list
in RGB.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I’m curious to understand the issue: Wouldn’t it be in the best interest of those companies producing spot colors to make sure that Scribus supports them? Or is the cost (effort) of adding new palettes so high that it would be a deterrent for them?

Hi Viktor,

This is one of the mysteries of the universe, probably a legacy from the
selfish behavior of companies.

Meanwhile, it is possible to go to freieFarbe's website and download a
zip file of swatches you can use in Scribus. There is one in XML for
1.4.x, and another in SBZ for 1.5.x:

https://www.freiefarbe.de/en/thema-farbe/software/

Go down to the Open Colour Systems Collection files. After unzipping,
copy the color systems you want to the swatches folder in Scribus. (In
total there are 378 of them)

Hi Mike,

If you are using 1.5.4 you can download and install the HKS palettes (not just the J+S version) and hundreds of other colour systems via the Resources manager (Windows -> Resources). Note that these are not the original HKS colour values. Instead, they result from a photometric measuring of their printed references and are in L*a*b*, not CMYK.

HTH,
Christoph
